“After I graduated from the Academie Minerva I was mainly focusing on illustrating books and magazines about birds and nature in general. But after a few years my autonomous work took over. These were mostly landscapes and birds. The landscapes and birds were and still are landscapes without birds, as my bird paintings are about birds and not about landscape. As a kid I had this rudimentary drive when man was still a hunter, fisherman and collector, to catch rabbits, hookup pike and collect bird eggs and mostly afterwards make drawings of them.

In my bird paintings I’m not so much interested in making a photorealistic painting, I like to explore all the different facets about painting itself, seeking to find a balance between abstraction and realism where my color pallet follows a more complementary approach painting warm colors next to or over cold colors which gives a painting a more vibrant atmosphere.”
